Warsaw // Commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Xenakis's death // 5 & 6-11-2016

Our esteemed colleagues in Warsaw have organized this commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Xenakis's death. It is an honour for CIX to be represented by two of our members, Benoît Gibson and Sharon Kanach.

Here is the description in English:

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This year we commemorate 15th death anniversary of a Greek composer and architect – Iannis Xenakis. The New Music Study, Department of Composition FCUM and Poznań University of Technology decided to organize an international conference in order to pay tribute to the Master. Metastatis The Architecture of Iannis Xenakis’s Music will take place in the Senate Chamber of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw on 5-6 November 2016. The aim of the conference is to re-discover the composer and emphasize the influence of his creative thinking on the development of the contemporary music. The conference panels which will take place on the 5th of November will be attended by outstanding specialists, artists, and researchers working in the Polish and international institutions.
The conference hosts a discussion panel that will take place on November 6th. The discussants will talk about the perception and reception of Iannis Xenakis’s music. Among the panelists, there are professors of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music who have been acquainted with the composer in various ways – they participated in his master classes, researched his music, sought inspiration in his music for their own musical compositions.
The scholarly discussions will be followed by a concert of the New Music Study entitled Iannis Xenakis – the architect of music. Master’s music composition for the percussion, baritone, and piano will be performed.
During the conference and concerts, admirers of Xenakis’s music will have a chance to see two exhibitions located in the foyer of the Concert Hall.
I am convinced that these two days will bring intellectual and artistic inspiration.
I wish you an inspiring time filled with the spirit of one of the most outstanding composers of all times.

Grand témoin de Iannis Xenakis, JM. Morisset

8 novembre 2016
